“I’ve portrayed a number of characteristic elements of Barcelona linked to different sports and recognisable elements of the adidas brand like the three stripes”.

“I have a habit of collecting fragments of my daily life that grab my attention and I store them in my studio like a bird accumulating bright objects. Electronic components, magazines, screenshots, anonymous doodles and my own… Any detail seems to me a good pretext for starting a dialogue with the work without knowing how and when the game will end. During the process, these figurative elements are deformed and decontextualized until they enter an abstract terrain, achieving a confusing but sincere reflection of me and my context”.

Born in Barcelona in 1986, Martí Sawe’s work hints at figurative elements that break up, deform and dilute within abstraction.

The expressionist impulses and clumsy scribbles point clearly at his strong obsession with graffiti, the activity he’s most recognised for and which he’s been practising since he was 14 years old.

The virtuoso details and colourful flat shapes that define his compositions are a legacy of his professional career linked to illustration and animation. Each piece is an immersion in the artist’s unconscious mind with a dose of absurdity, humour, a certain naive aesthetic and a struggle between control and turmoil.

His hyperactivity allows him to combine his street work with animation projects, international exhibitions and large format murals.
